I used to feel like I was running on empty.

Teaching art in a secondary school and caring for my young family left little room for me. My days were filled with nurturing others’ creativity, but my own felt stifled. Then, one day, I made the leap. I left my career as a teacher to reclaim time for myself, my family and for my art.

And it wasn’t just time I found; it was joy.

I headed outside, into nature—the place that always brings me back to myself and is an endless source of inspiration. Whether walking in the fresh air with my dog or tending to my garden and allotment, I felt its therapeutic power. Flowers stood out, with their vibrant colours their beauty was impossible to ignore.

Acrylic paints became my medium. All those juicy colours!  Acrylics let me work fast, follow my gut, and just go with the flow. No rigid plans. No overthinking. Just me, the paint, and a sense of play. Each piece was an adventure, unfolding moment by moment.

Honestly, it felt like freedom. After years of bells ringing and days mapped out to the minute, this was a rebellion in full bloom. With every petal I painted, I felt a little more like myself again.

And that’s really what I hope people feel when they see my work. A little lift. A bit of sunshine. Maybe even a spark of their own joy.

Because these paintings? They’re not just pretty flowers. They’re proof that it’s never too late to find your way back to what makes you feel alive.
